Frequent Questions

Where can I find information on water quality on airplanes and trains?

Airplanes

In 2009, EPA published the Aircraft Drinking Water Rule (ADWR) to ensure that safe and reliable drinking water is provided to airline passengers and crew. The ADWR provides additional protection to the public from disease-causing organisms (e.g., pathogens) sometimes found in onboard drinking water by establishing barriers of protection targeted to the air carrier industry.

Trains

The EPA has worked with railroad companies such as Amtrak, concerning the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act.

If you have additional questions, you may contact the Safe Drinking Water Hotline at the following number: 1 (800) 426-4791
