Reducing unnecessary truck idling can save fuel, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, cut air pollution, and save money. As part of the SmartWay Transport Partnership, EPA encourages freight operators to reduce unnecessary idling. Smartway is a voluntary collaboration between EPA and the freight industry to conserve fuel, reduce emissions, and improve efficiency.
EPA’s has also launched a National Idling Reduction Campaign as part of its Clean School Bus program.
