Frequent Questions

How do I obtain a new copy of my EPA 608 or 609 refrigeration (or universal) certification card if mine has been lost or stolen?

For Section 608 Certification:

If the testing organization that issued your 608 certification for Stationary Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning is still in business, you can contact that organization to get a replacement card. They are required to maintain records of people issued cards. For contact information, you check the list of 608 certifying organizations that are still operating.

If the testing organization is no longer in business, please review additional Steps For Replacing a lost Section 608 Refrigeration Card.

For Section 609 Certification:

If the testing organization that issued your 609 certification for repairing or servicing motor vehicle air-conditioning (MVAC) is still in business, you can contact that organization and get a replacement card. For contact information, check the list of Section 609 Technician Training and Certification Programs.

For further information on EPA certification for performing maintenance on equipment for air conditioning and heating, you may email the Stratospheric Protection Division Office of Atmospheric Programs at spdcomments@epa.gov.  You may also use their “Contact Us” form.
